The premier of THE BACHELORETTE 2015 with Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson is now less than 3 weeks away. (I'm always a little embarrassed to admit how much I like this franchise. It's just so fun to watch!)
This season The Bachelor is mixing it up, throwing in some curve balls and doing a few things differently. About time to shake things up a bit after so many years, I say!
Instead of one Bachelorette, they will start with two ladies and the men will vote for which one they want to remain.
HALT! Does anyone else think this idea just sounds like an ego-bruising endeavor for one and an ego-puffing exercise for the other? What girl in her right mind would do this? The producers had to have spun the premise differently to the girls like "It'll be great! You'll both get fantastic national exposure, one will get the sympathetic vote and be America's sweetheart when she leaves the show and the other will be the Bachelorette! Win Win!!!!" I'm imagining these producers sitting around talking about how they'll pitch it to get two girls pitted against each other in a speed dating situation where men have nothing to go on but the sexy factor and a few sentences of conversation. And you have to know that these twenty something men are not going to be thinking about who would make them the best wife.
Apparently one woman is chosen and one leaves but don't worry, the eliminated contestant has found love probably faster than the one who had to go all over hell's half acre to date all these men. If you don't want to know who gets to stay, stop reading now. I'll give you a minute to think about this while I tell you that it's pretty common knowledge who leaves. Kaitlyn remains and Britt goes but apparently the latter has a boyfriend now. Maybe even someone she met from the show. Maybe even someone who was eliminated at the beginning. Reality Steve makes his living collecting information about this show and now only has to sit back and receive tips from others instead of hoofing it all over America to spy on the show. Basically, this is where I get my info. That and Wet Paint.
The Bachelorette production just left Ireland where they hung out for awhile and they've dropped off the face of the earth temporarily which suggests that they are coming in to hometowns. Kaitlyn might be in Vancouver, Canada, no one is entirely sure. Watching social media seems to be the best way to track these people and with the names of most of the 25 bachelors on Reality Steve's list, spies report in regularly if anyone posts their location or alludes to love or a TV show or pretty much anything. Last night, I dropped in to several of the guy's twitter accounts to see nothing in particular but you know these guys will be gaining thousands of followers in the weeks to come and some may even start fashion blogs or blogs on men's grooming. It looks like a VERY handsome group that makes it past the first elimination, so this might be fun to watch.
That's all I have for now on The Bachelorette front but I'll keep you posted as I learn more.
In other news, Chris Harrison's Romance novel is out and although I haven't read it and may not, it's made a few sales. In a moment of weakness and poor judgment, I did, however, buy Courtney's Tell All book, I'm Not Here to Make Friends, or something like that. Soon, I'll do a full summary of all the juicy tidbits of her time on the Bachelor in Ben Flajnik's season. In my own defense, I was looking for a book written by a Bachelor contestant that told about what goes on from a production standpoint because I'm getting ready to write the third novella in my Husband Hunt series and want more info on behind the scenes. Melissa Rycroft, Sean Lowe and Trista's books didn't have what I was looking for.
In the meantime, let's count the days until The Bachelorette premier, shall we? 19.
Kim Hornsby writes fiction and has a novella series on Amazon Books called The Husband Hunt. The first book is free to get you hooked. :)

Laugh of the Week!
Here's two funny videos that I watched this week that made me laugh out loud. Laughing is good, especially when your lips open up and air is expelled and you make a noise. What is a laugh anyhow?

USA Today Bestselling Author Goal!
Box Sets and Hitting Bestseller Lists!

Box Sets are the new Biggest Thing! And you know why an author would offer a book that took her 2 years of her life to write for only 10 cents? To hit the USA Today Bestselling List. Or any other list would be nice too.
That's the main reason authors are banding together in bunches of 10 to offer a book, but the other reason is almost as good--To cross market with other authors, gain readership through them, and get people hooked on their series by offering the first book virtually free.
I'm no different. I saw the Box Set train leaving the station and jumped on board!

Two months ago I researched these anthologies on Amazon, read blogs on them, studied covers, titles, and talked to authors who are already involved in a box set. I already was a year behind, seeing I wanted to get in a set last year this time. Feeling behind in anything always drives me to maniacal productivity.
I contacted a bunch of authors, whose books I loved reading, whose writing I respect greatly, and who write in a slightly similar genre as me. While waiting for these authors to think about my proposition I worked on a title.
In terms of search engines, I decided on the title Passion & Danger, having seen a lot of romance books starting with the word Passionate and knowing we would pop up in a reader's search. All the books I planned to have in the set had these two aspects in common. Passion and danger.
I was turned down by a few authors who either couldn't give me the temporary publishing rights, didn't have anything that wasn't already in a set, or didn't see themselves fitting in with the group. I appealed to my chosen few writers by asking them if they wanted to become a USA Today Bestselling Author. If they did, here is my plan. (insert my email here.)
Only one of us holds the title of USA TODAY Bestselling Author and she said yes even though her book has thousands of reviews on Amazon and might not need to join us for any particular reason.
Alexa Grace is a superstar of Romantic Suspense but also savvy enough to know that you can always reach more readers through cross networking. We had our star author for the first book!
Toby Neal is a marketing wizard, prolific author and writes fabulous, gritty crime/romance set in Hawaii. I was amazed and thrilled she said yes. Her Lei Crime Series is so popular, she has her own Kindle World! What?
Kristine Cayne has won so many awards in Romance and Suspense, that I can't list them all here. She's a top author at Amazon and her willingness to join us was another coup. Yowza!
Dana Delamar, another bestselling author, agreed to get on board with her awesome novel, which is book 1 in her bestselling series. Love her writing! And she agreed to help us with marketing, something she does as a sideline, along with editing.
Alicia Dean who was my editor for two books and writes multi-genre. She also writes for Kindle World and heads up Authors Helping Authors and many marketing groups. She is a go-getter! Alicia let us have her gorgeous novel that weaves in a paranormal aspect. Wow!
Then I asked Pat White, the Harlequin Intrigue author who got me into this kooky business in the first place and she gave us her fun romantic suspense. I read it years ago and laughed all the way through. We had our first humorous mystery. I couldn't believe my luck.
Diana Layne had huge success with book 1 and 2 in her Mafia series and was ready to release book 3. Luckily she saw this as a good way to market and we got book 1 for the set. It's a Bestseller with about 500 reviews and is a Golden Heart Finalist. Ca Ching!
Bestselling author and Louisiana writer, Lori Leger, was convinced to lend us one of her many novels and willingly offered to do the formatting, something I didn't want to take on (even if I could) and didn't exactly want to pay hundreds for someone else to take on. I loved this love affair and all the Louisiana/Cajun spice in all her books.
My critique partner, Christine M. Fairchild, is ready to release the much-anticipated Book 2 of The Goliath Conspiracy Series and let us have Book 1--An enormous Bestseller! Suddenly I had her kick-ass thriller to complete the set and I was doing the happy dance all over my house.
Add in my Award-Winning, Best-Selling Romantic Suspense, the first in the Dream Jumper series and we had ten tantalizing books of Passion & Danger.
Everyone began with a check of their formatting while I hunted for a cover photo. We had a huge decision to make that most women never give much thought to.
Hairy chest or clean-shaven chest??? This question occupied our emails and my mind for about two weeks while I polled women. I'd found an awesome photo that depicted our theme but the cover model had a hairy chest. Dare we?
In the end we decided on the picture of gorgeous cover model, Harvey Stables with a sultry blonde, Amber, and had The Killion Group go to work on our cover.
Note: We needed a flat version too because of Apple and they supplied all the sizes and versions when it was done! See below.
We decided on a marketing budget, put money in the pot, and set to work figuring out what sites gave us the most bang for our buck.
Lori began formatting, careful to keep the file as small as possible because of Kindle's 3 KB rule for .99 books. We really wanted to offer this for .99 and as I type this I'm still not sure if we'll be able to reduce the file from 3.5 to 3. All photos of our covers had to go as well as back matter, front matter and such. Poor Lori. She was able to keep the file large for Draft 2 Digital, a new uploading service similar to Smashwords because they can take a huge file. They will also do all the converting for you and even will set everything up for CreateSpace, if you like. Having box sets in print is completely ludicrous because they'd have to cost over $100. but it's nice to know for single books.
We set a publishing date for May 17 and have given ourselves over a month to gain all the presales we can in that month. We anticipate a nice dump of sales on that day, chosen specifically because USA Today begins their weekly count on Sundays.
As I learn more about this process, I will let you know in installments, publishing along the way about the journey to USA Today Bestselling Status. One thing I learned that was disappointing is that another box set comprised of List Authors is releasing the day after us, hoping for NY Times Bestselling status. (They start their count on a Monday). We are not so lofty in our goal--USA Today is good for now.
We have marketing set up that includes lots of sites that will advertise our book, although BookBub does not take multi-author box sets yet. We went with My Romance Reads, ENT and Kindle Books and Tips for the big ones and Awesome Gang, Indie Author News, Book Soda, Genre Pulse, EBook Booster, Choosy Bookworm and others.

If you're reading this, please consider buying our presale for your own enjoyment, as well as helping us realize our Indie Dream. Here's the current links with more to come:

Model Can't Put Down Phone on DWTS
Last night on Dancing With The Stars ( #DWTS), the model from the Superbowl Carl's Jr ad, Charlotte, did not get the popular vote and was asked to leave the show.
She had great dancing potential if she'd just been dedicated enough to put down her phone and work a little harder. The clip of her and Keno working in the studio showed her on the darn phone every chance she got. If her dancing partner stopped to think, she went to the phone. She heard it beep, she went to the phone. Even Len told her that being on this show as a golden opportunity and she needed to treat it as such. The gal had long legs, dancing potential and probably the male vote seeing that's the image she projects (busty beer commercial babe), but it wasn't enough to save her over Noah, the vet who dances with one arm and one leg, for crying out loud, and the Bachelor. I guess men don't watch DWTS.
Here's my opinion of what's going on these days on DWTS:
Nastia is a gymnast so of course she is going to look fantastic out there. She's an Olympic level gymnast.
Rumer looks so much like her Mama at that age! Fabulous dancer and what a set of gorgeous (but fake) choppers! She's cute.
14 Year Old is now only known as that, not her name. So young to be in this competition. Next, they'll let a toddler dance if he's tall enough.
Noah the veteran. Fan favorite. We love this guy for so many reasons. Hope he gets that prosthetic arm working for his sake.
Chris, Prince Farming. He can dance but he must stop looking so terrified. Go for it, Chris!
Patti Labelle. Wonderful Diva. It's been fun. Probably time to bow out.
Suzanne Somers. She is 68?! Check out her legs! I'm a fan but she's only got another week or two left before the young'uns take over.
Robert the Shark. He's a little dude. Love that he's doing this. Favorite shark! Romancing the dance instructor too. Fun to watch them make googly eyes at each other.
Michael Sam. Muscular and kind of tight but fun to watch and he has that little boy smile!
Riker. I like this guy! He's a rocker kid with great pizzazz. Also a distant cousin of Julianne and Derek. He acts like a teenage boy but dances like a seasoned performer. From performing family.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

The Dream Jumper's Promise - Sexy Talk and Scuba
Welcome to Kimmy's Korner. You're looking great today!
Today I'm jumping on the Blog Hop wagon over at My Sexy Saturday to offer a few sentences of Sexy Talk from my novel, THE DREAM JUMPER'S PROMISE
The Suspense with Romantic and Supernatural elements is free, BTW, over at Amazon, Kobo, Nook, B&N, Everywhere and is the recipient of Best Paranormal Mystery/Thriller by Chanticleer Reviews. 245 Reviews on Amazon with 4.6 stars.
Here's an example of my seven paragraphs of sexy talk between the two leads in my book who have just met through a Lahaina, Maui SCUBA diving shop. Her (Tina's) job is to teach him (Jamey) to dive but he's distracted by how cute she is.

When her lesson on decompression
sickness ended, they ordered another beer and stayed to listen to the band that
had set up for the sunset crowd. They danced, had another drink, and then Tina
told him the bad news. He wasn’t her type. She tried to look convincing. “I
like the surfer boy look. You’re too big and too…too..."
“Manly?”
He grinned.
She rolled her eyes. “I don’t know.
I just know you’re not my type. You look like someone my parents would put in
front of me in hopes of a wedding.”
He took her hands in his and stared sweetly into her face. "Please reconsider."
She looked him up and down. “Sorry. You’re
too…perfect.”
He laughed like that was the most absurd thing
he’d ever heard and showed her a scar under his hairline from a baseball injury
when he was fourteen. Then he joked he had six toes on his left
foot and an extra nipple. “I’m a freak,” he whispered in her ear, then gently nipped the edge.
An hour later, she left him at his parked rental
car on Front Street, but after the lesson the next day, her feelings
changed drastically. James chivalrously offered to help with her heavy dive gear. “I
already feel emasculated and unwanted after your rejection last night," he said. "At least
let me lift something for you with my big manly muscles.” Something in his smile, the twinkle in his eyes, and right then she felt that barrier crumple in favor of guys who look like cops, named Jamey Dunn.

The Farmer Picks a Wife, The Farmer Picks a Wife, Hi Ho the Derry O
The season finale of The Bachelor (Prince Farming) opened on Monday with Chris Soules visiting his family at his parent's very flat, snowy farm in Iowa. My eyeballs froze just looking at the frosty breaths of Chris and Whitney as she ran across the icy driveway to his waiting arms. Once inside the warmth, Whitney charmed everyone to the nth degree, even making Chris's dad cry during her dinner toast. Whitney is the perfect choice for this Bachelor. Forget the squeaky voice, Whitney is in love with him, will move to Iowa, is beautiful, accomplished and all in.
Chris's Mom, Linda, is a lovely, warm, interesting person with a face that says the Good Life in Iowa and tells Whitney that she "could take her and love her, just like that but it's Christopher's choice." Everyone loves everyone else and Whitney heads off in the black SUV in her plaid shirt dress, sure that she's going to be giving Linda grandchildren soon.
The Soules boys gather in the tool shop for a beer and a romance talk and nothing gets decided.
The next day, the sisters take Chris aside to ask him about Becca. Soon it becomes clear that Chris really likes Becca but she might not like him quite as much.
Skip forward ten hours and we know that Becca likes Chris but isn't all in. The family likes her and laughs a lot with her but doubts that she's ready for a proposal. And they don't even know about the BIG V situation! I wonder what they thought when they realized that Becca had never been in love or had a lover. The talk that Becca has with Chris's mother Linda, is golden. Every young girl out there should take heed. Linda says it all, so beautifully.
Here's my theory on how Becca got this far when her relationship with Chris was so tentative. I believe that weeks ago, he really liked her as much as Whitney. Then he met Becca's family, loved them, LOVED THEM! and wanted to be a part of that. Then, all of a sudden, it was the fantasy suite, she was truthful about her lack of experience, and that was not an obstacle for them. Had Becca's personality merged with Whitney's attitude, Chris wouldn't have needed to make a choice. Chris had a real connection with Becca and kudos to Whitney for breaking through that because, you know what? A long marriage is based on mutual commitment. Not doubts and distance, or initial chemistry. Chris goes to Becca's hotel room for a down and dirty talk and the next day shows Whitney his house, his farm, his combine, and it's at that moment that Chris Soules falls completely in love with Whitney.
With Becca gone from his heart now, you can almost see the green light in front of Chris and Whitney. It's a beautiful thing.
The proposal the next day is as nice as the release of Becca from the obligation of trying to feel love. Of course Becca is sad. Her boyfriend broke up with her. But I think she understands that Whitney is ready, in love, and the best choice for Chris. She's not being asked to leave a SoCal lifestyle, give up her guarded virginity and hurry up the process when she's not sure. Whitney is sure.
After the Final Rose with Chris Harrison and the studio audience we see Chris, three months later, talking to CH in Los Angeles about his engagement to Whitney.
Why, in God's name, does CH keep harping on Chris about Becca? "What if ..." The audience clearly feels that CH is harping because when Chris answers, they clap in relief. Chris is a gentleman. Chris Soules that is, and as such, he is hesitant to say anything to diminish any relationship he had with any girl. Becca comes out to the stage and politely admits she wasn't ready and that's that.
After the commercial break, Becca leaves, Whitney comes out to the stage, the couple looks predictably happy, and Whitney verifies her maturity by saying she didn't watch the show. Not anyone else's dates but hers. Well done, Whitney! Then CH verifies his immaturity as a TV host and harps on the fact that Whitney should watch to see how conflicted Chris was at the end. SHUT UP Chris B. Harrison!!!
Whitney is funny, sweet, in love and Chris is lucky. The parents are "over the top" while the rest of America wishes they had in laws like these two.
Making babies-- "They will be cute," she says. "Bleep, Ya," Chris says.
Ashley S. -- Bachelor in Paradise? Still not sure. "I suppose I might be there," she says, but Chris H takes that as a yes.
Okay now, what do we think about Britt and Kaitlyn as co-Bachelorettes? STUPID IDEA! When they say Bachelor Nation was divided, they meant that Chris H likes Britt and Mike Fleiss, the creator, likes Kaitlyn. Bachelor Nation was not split down the middle by any stretch of the imagination. Go on Twitter to see. Team Kaitlyn was WAY ahead! Britt was barely in the running. Bachelor Producer propaganda.
I feel badly for both girls. They are both very uncomfortable with this totally stupid idea, and Chris H puts them on the spot asking them how the show will go down. How are they going to do it? Hey Chris, if you don't know what's going to happen, who does? CH's interview with the sparkly twins is as stupid and redundant as I've ever seen on this show. WTF. It made me mad. The whole thing looks like mud wrestling but without the mud.
Shame on you Bachelor producers, shame on you. Bad ending to a fun season.
Kim Hornsby is a bestselling author of romantic suspense and the romantic series The Husband Hunt, modeled after The Bachelor.
