Kimmy's Korner : Kindle Worlds Dissolves Tonight!

Hundreds of books will cease to be tonight when Amazon closes Kindle Worlds, the imprint that promoted fan fiction.
With over 40 worlds to choose from, there was a lot of variety and talent from established authors hoping to network broader into the fan base of more successful authors. Some KW authors were NYTimes Bestselling authors themselves, writing for friends, fine-tuning their pen on another genre.
I wrote ROCK BLUFF for the Lei Crime World by Toby Neal. I loved this book and have plans to rewrite it soon, taking out all characters and locations that belong to Toby.
It will still be called Rocky Bluff and have the same cover, but the story will be different.
I wanted to preserve all my wonderful reviews which will also disappear into obscurity and decided this morning to post them here. Thank you everyone for reading and reviewing. I appreciate your support more than I can say.

Rocky Bluff

A death at the Historic Iao Theater on Maui has detective Lei Texeira going under cover in the cast of The Rocky Horror Show.

Detective Lei Texeira has just moved to Maui from Kauai with boyfriend Michael Stevens when they witness a tragic accident during a performance of The Rocky Horror Show at the local theater. A closer look suggests murder. Stevens is assigned the case but Lei can't keep her nose and her theories out of his investigation especially when she realizes that her new running partner and friend, Kali, might have been the ultimate target.
Lei goes undercover in the bizarre theatrical rendition of a narcissistic transsexual and his band of weirdos, but soon finds herself a target as well.
When Kali's tragic past catches up with her, Lei and Stevens struggle to apprehend a clever killer who stays steps ahead of the police in this game of terror. It isn't until the Iao Theater ghost intervenes and Lei finds herself conspiring with a dead woman that final clues fit together to form a bizarre mosaic of treachery.

Although it's not necessary to read the Lei Crime Series to enjoy Rocky Bluff, Kim highly recommends the Bestselling Police Procedural books by Award-Winning Toby Neal.

Rocky Bluff Wows, No Horror Show Here!

Rocky Bluff was my favorite so far of the Kindle World Lei Crime Series novellas. A long-time community
theatre performer myself, and former cast member in the Rocky Horror Show, I got a kick out of the theatre
setting and enjoyed seeing Lei finally coming out of her constrained shell onstage. The novella format allows
the fan fiction contributors to explore side stories and minor characters who might not support a full-length novel.
However, in this case, I felt the short length hindered the author from fully developing clues, red herrings and
other alternative suspects in the murder of a cast member during a performance. This was such an excellent
plot that it could easily have been expanded into a full novel. I hope we see more from this author.

Wow! A thriller revolving around a dangerous situation and a production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
If you have read the Lei Crime Series you are familiar with Michael Stevens and Lei Texeira. At this point of
the series the story takes between two earlier books when they are just beginning their relationship. Lei has
made a new friend, which is highly irregular, and finds she has tons in common with Kali. A murder happens
during the opening night of the play and Kali points in the direction of her "stalker". The story goes through
many twists and turns, after trying to solve it on my own another curve ball was thrown and I was shocked.
This novella is slightly different from the original series in that we have a sexy thriller and not just a murder
mystery. Fabulous book!

Terrific addition to the Lei Crime World. I'm a fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, so it made the book
even more fun & interesting. The book gives us a glimpse of another side of Lei. The twisted and turns in
the story were well thought out. Great job Kim!

Fast paced and full of twists this book had it all....and a character that has already stolen my heart!
Lei is such a mixture of tough and tender. Struggling with her past in order to create a better future for
herself Lei is always a little intense but Stephens is a solid presence and helps her stay on even footing.
This book was especially fun because Lei is introduced to the stage show of The Rocky Horror show with
its crazy cast of characters!

Lei is not an open-hearted type of woman. She prefers to be on her own, well, maybe with her dog and her
boyfriend Michael. Girlfriends? When you are a detective, you don't have any. Especially if due to some events
from the past, trusting people does not come easily to you.

Everything changes when one day, at an off-road running track, Lei meets Kali. Despite the fact the two women
are completely different they become close friends. Kali seems a perfect running partner and a kindred spirit.
Lei begins to overcome her cautious nature and become more relaxed around this new, blonde-haired and
self-confident friend, who is an actress.

No wonder that when Lei witnesses a tragic death during a show in which Kali plays a role, she becomes
concerned. Especially because the accident, involving a falling prop, seems not to be quite accidental…
And this is not the only sign that suggests they are in danger—someone attacks the girls while they're running,
somebody cuts the brakes in Lei’s car… Lei must find the guilty one and protect Kali.

Who is the one to blame—is it Kali’s ex-boyfriend? Is it her married lover? Or somebody else? Is Kali really so sweet and innocent, or is she hiding some secrets from the past? Maybe Lei trusted the wrong person? Maybe Kali, despite having an affair with one of the actors, plans to seduce Michael?

This novel is a real whirlwind of ideas. I can’t tell you more or I’ll spoil the fun of reading this book. Twists and turns, a quick pace, and an unexpected ending—this is what you can expect from Kim Hornsby and Rocky Bluff. I am sure that till the very last page you will be wondering what will come next.

Nice and quick read, and the action takes place at Hawaii—this is where I am going this summer!

What a unique and interesting idea...incorporating Rocky Horror Picture Show into a story. Kim Hornsby
has crafted an excellent, well-written and compelling mystery. I could not put it down, and the payoff was well
worthwhile. I love how the author made the setting come alive. Love the twists she added, love the characters.
Excellent story! I haven't read the other stories in the series, but now I must! I'm intrigued.

Loved Rocky Horror so it was great to find a novel written around this theme, especially from an
author like Hornsby who has such a deligthful way of spinning a tale and creating unexpected and refreshing
characters and circumstances. If you think you know what's going to happen in this story, read on. It only gets
better as you rush through the pages to get to the end.
